Italy is really a strange country, it is possible that the CEO of Fiat Sergio Marchionne, who heads an industry that always builds profits billionaires financed by taxpayers' money, can afford to replace the government and trade unions, imposing his pro domo, new rules in open conflict with the law in place and with the national collective agreement for workers.
This is indeed the meaning of extortion (blackmail because of it) through which Marchionne has threatened to close the plant by FIAT Pomigliano D'Arco, and the resulting dismissal of 5,000 workers employed at those meetings, if the workers themselves do not agree to waive the rights under applicable law attributes to them. Unusual show of bonhomie, Marchionne are willing to "sacrifice themselves" by failing to relocate to Serbia and Poland the production of goods (car designed in the decades to come to have less market), concentrating instead in Italy, provided that the Italian workers be willing themselves to become de facto Serbian and Polish workers.

Before you destroy the world of work through unemployment and insecurity, then it goes to collect, imposing new rules that make the worker a slave with fewer rights.
